Guide to acronyms and terms used

  • ADSL2+:  Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. ADSL2+ is a way to deliver high-speed internet over a phone line.

 

  • VDSL2:  Very-High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line. VDSL2 is one way to deliver high-speed Internet over a phone line.

 

  • FastE LAN:  Ethernet ports that can handle speeds up to 100 Mbps. FastE LAN ports are used to connect to devices on your local network.

 

  • GigE LAN:  Ethernet ports that can handle speeds up to a Gig. GigE LAN ports are using to connect to devices on your local network.

 

  • GigE WAN:  Ethernet ports that can handle speeds up to a Gig. GigE WAN ports are used to connect to other networks.

 

  • GPON:  Gigabit Passive Optical Network. Used to deliver high-speed internet over a fiber network.

 

  • WiFi:  WiFi (wireless) is used to connect devices to each other or to the internet without wires, using radio frequency.

 

  • USB2:  Universal Serial Bus. USB allows devices to physically connect and logically communicate to each other. This port is for future use.

 

  • FXS:  Foreign eXchange Subscriber interface. FXS ports are used to connect analog telephone devices.

 

  • HPNA:  HomePNA Alliance. The HPNA port is used to distribute high-quality video inside the home over existing coaxial wires.
